WILD SYNAPSE EUROPAN13 1ST PRIZE ENTRY. ESPOO, FINLAND
Author. bammm Architecture Office. 2015
First Prize Competition Entry.
"Wild Synapse is not a Project, it is an Attitude." With this proposal the architecture office formed by Alan Cortez de la Concha, Borja Sallago Zambrano, and Manuel Pinilla Fernandez has won the First Prize at Europan13 in Espoo, Finland. Last December 4th they received said award in Helsinki at the hands of Europan Finland's organizers.
The office's project approaches an architectural program for students and faculty at Aalto University's campus in Otaniemi, with the particular difficulty of its insertion in woodlands bordering a EU's protected “Natura 2000” site. The jury highlighted the proposal's sensitivity for minimizing its footprint on site, as well as its expressive construction, and the adaptability it provides to the relation between inhabitants and surrounding nature.
The negotiations for the project's future construction are expected to begin in the coming months.
Authors and image copyright holders: Alan Cortez de la Concha, Borja Sallago Zambrano, Manuel Pinilla Fernandez.
Competition collaborators: Ana Georgina Hernandez Aranda — graphic designer —, Francisco Crespo Burgueño, Fernando Basurto Gallegos — infography —, Alba Sospedra Arrufat, and Luisa Daza Reyes — architecture students —.

Primer Premio.
Wild Synapse is not a Project, it is an Attitude.

Architect. C3 Arquitectos. 2013
Selected project to Jalisco's XVIII Architecture Biennial.
In the Rivera de Chapala, Casa JM can be found between imposing mountains to the north and a soothing lake to the south. A project of 4,000 ft2 in the middle of a rural environment, it intends to make a reinterpretation of the typical summer house of the area.
The client was looking for an "old-fashioned" Mexican residence, and so the goal was to marry both the concepts of a vernacular practice with an architecture that responds to the paradigms of today. Local materials are bond to the roots of the town, while a contemporary approach to space provides the best use the land has to offer.

Architect. C3 Arquitectos. 2013
Selected project to Jalisco's IX Architecture Biennial.
In a privileged area of Guadalajara, Mar Marmara 2094 is a multi-family housing project that looks to provide the inhabitants with the comfort and the security that comes with living in a residential zone, and the financial accessibility the economy demands nowadays. At only 15 minutes from downtown, this project accomplishes to mix both urban life and a homelike calm.
Placed on an aged estate where there used to be a project from the Architect Fernando Gonzalez Gortazar, with Mar Marmara 2094 we tried to recover the history and the architecture of the property. Even several materials from the old house were reused. Such is the case of the clay tile that can be found on the facade of the new building. With 11 apartments and 11 different clients, the project was being generated under demand. Each one of the storeys is different from the other. This makes Mar Marmara 2094 and eclectic and contemporary space, whilst rooted to a history of great importance.

LOW-COST BUS STOPS
jalisco. mex
Architect. ITESO / Municipality of Tlajomulco. 2011
An intervention in a low-quality public space requires research and considerations that go beyond the mere architectural element. But first, and maybe most importantly, you need to locate the problem, and in the case of this project it was as evident and simple as the final solution. That is, a lack of bus stops.
People were looking for a shelter that did not exist while waiting for their bus; there was no shadow nor there were benches to sit on, just a little sign acknowledging this was in fact the place to wait for their ride. We asked several neighbours about their needs, getting a unanimous: "we need bus stops". Recognising this void, we aimed to create elements that were made from a material that was easy to obtain, low-cost and, preferably, to be recycled. The chosen material were pallets. Of simple use and great versatility, all of the pallets used were a gift from a little company in the neighbourhood.
With a modulate design and easy to assemble, the parts were built in one of our houses and then transported to the site. Once installed, the bus stops rose the enthusiasm of the people who were going to be able to use them. Their employment and resistance were put to the test immediately, leaving all the parties involved quite satisfied.
